1996 at Domaine de Marcoux
A slightly unusual year; a watershed year.
Philippe was no longer here, and our two permanent employees also left for fresh horizons.
For Sophie, Catherine and Patrick, our new employee who joined in early September, it was their first harvest.
Pierre, Catherine’s husband, was there too. He helps us with the accounts and finance, and also lends a hand with grape-picking.
Everything needs to be managed: harvesting operation, pickers, equipment, transporting the crop, vinification. Back then, we had to get up during the night to monitor the fermentation temperatures and, if necessary, cool the wines down at 2-3am!
In the end, we “greenhorns” encountered no problems.
A vintage of moderate quality, which demanded heavy sorting of the crop.
