2001 at Domaine de Marcoux
Year one of the millennium began with lots of rain, all winter long.
The soils restored their water reserves, and the water table rose considerably.
Pruning, though done amid the damp, was problem-free.
We spent lots of time straightening up and training our old vines. They certainly deserve all our support!
The remainder of the season went well. The grapes were in perfect health, helped by the weather, which was perfect too: sunshine, a nice downpour in mid-July, more sun and a helping of Mistral – everything was just splendid. Not a very large crop, but quality-wise a winner.
Harvesting ended on 28 September. In the cellar, we inaugurated the new vats, smaller than before and allowing better plot selection; and our refrigeration unit, for better temperature control during vinification.
